Building climate change resilient economic capacity and environmental protection role of Ethiopian women through integrated approach

Target groups;  Vulnerable women of Axum zuria.

Direct Beneficiaries:

  • 37500 climate change vulnerable community members (100% to be women).

Indirect Beneficiaries:

  • All community members project intervention kebeles are expected to benefit from the project.

This project is intended to contribute towards the efforts being carried out in Tigray regional State to strengthen the resilience of women and girls to climate variability and change by end of the project. Specifically, the project strengthens the level of awareness of 300 community members on women empowerment, climate change adaptation and environmental protection; diversify and strengthen livelihoods and sources of income for 5000 vulnerable women and girls through Climate Smart Agriculture, Livestock and Agroforestry and  build adaptation and disaster risk management capacity of local government structures, CBOs and CSOs to reduce risks associated with climate-induced socioeconomic and environmental losses in Axum Zuria Woreda by 2020.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute towards Ethiopia’s, GTP-II implementation by focusing on Climate Resilient Economic Empowerment of Women and Vulnerable group, and enhancing their roles in climate change adaptation and mitigation in Lailay Michew   Woreda of three kebele, central  Zone in Tigray  Regional State.

Outcome of the Project

Outcome 1: Raise awareness of 37,500 community members on climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Outcome 2: Diversify livelihoods of 200 vulnerable women, through increased production and productivity by promoting climate smart agriculture, agroforestry, sustainable management and use of natural resources and other climate resilient income generating enterprises development.

Outcome 3: Build human and institutional capacity of governments and CSOs to mainstream climate-resilient economic development in their programs to benefit vulnerable women in the target areas.

Outcome 4: Develop (MEL) and knowledge management system monitoring, evaluation, learning for informing policy and future up-scaling.
